The Cook Book

This cafe is the place to head for when visiting St. Just in West Cornwall, in the Land's End Peninsula. It's clean, quiet, with friendly staff, and it has a good, substantial menu at attractive prices. Also a well presented second hand-bookstore. There is also a polite notice discouraging the use of mobile phones as well, so there is double the reason to go there.

Dev's Kerala Restauran

Simple and very cheap South Indian restaurant. Very popular with a good athmosphere. I have been three times so far and have only had the vegetarian options. While not as good as London's Drummond Street eateries and a bit less specialised; they advertise tandoori dishes as well as vegetarian ones, it is a very useful piped music-free oasis in a popular eating area of Bristol. It is also the cheapest way I have found to have an evening meal in Bristol.

Bell

This is a quiet country pub, offering a good range of meals and beers. None of the ubiquitous speakers but occasional gentle soft tracks played behind the bar. We arrived in time to order their home-steamed steak and kidney pudding – rich and very filling, oozing with dark gravy, served with creamy mash, carrots and cauli’.
[Other facilities: Garden to rear, Ladies loo modernised and opened by the ‘Olympic Pilot’, selection of games, newspapers, paperbacks …]

The Munch House

A great little cafe, bang in the middle of Maidstone, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The staff are friendly and efficient, and the proprietor says he has no plans to install piped music because "the customers don't like it".

There is an excellent range of reasonably priced meals and snacks, and the establishment has been awarded the maximum 5 stars in the Scores on the Doors food hygiene scheme.

Plough Inn Wingfield

The Plough Inn is Les Routiers classified and we enjoyed good food there.
The only music is from a tiny radio on the bar, which the landlord is happy turn off upon request.
This music was in no way a problem for us, since it cannot be heard at all from the conservatory.

Quoting from their website:

"The Plough is a pretty, thatched country pub with a lovely atmosphere, low ceilings, oak beams and an open fire.

T & C Fish Restaurant

Information comes from Mrs Barrett-Ayres, who praises its 'wide range of fish, expertly chosen, cooked to your specification and served with a friendly smile. alo a choice of meat, pasta and vegetarian dishes.'
On the first floor, which has a lift up to it, there is a panoramic view of the entire bay from Aberdeen northward.

Tate Modern Restaurant

Situated at the very top of Tate Modern, the restaurant has one of the finest views in London north towards St Paul's. Try to get a window seat for a view of Wren's masterpiece. Tate Modern Restaurant has a reasonable fixed-price menu (two courses for £17.50). The service is friendly but a bit unco-ordinated at times. Do book.
The other cafés in Tate Modern also seem to be piped music-free.
